CompTIA Acquires TechAmerica

Washington, D.C., May 5, 2014 – CompTIA has acquired TechAmerica, complementing its strengths in education, certification, advocacy and philanthropy with TechAmerica’s public sector expertise and member base of large technology companies.

The acquisition unites complementary segments of information technology and communications (ICT) under one umbrella to enhance voice, reach and influence. The combined organization now represents and supports member companies along a growing and diverse ICT spectrum, a $3.6-trillion global industry driving innovation, connectivity, jobs and efficiency in business, government and consumer sectors around the world.

Through this transaction, CompTIA, the voice of the world’s information technology industry, joins forces with TechAmerica, a leader in public policy advocacy as well as business networking and intelligence. The combined entity retains the CompTIA name, brand, leadership and Board of Directors, with a member from TechAmerica’s Board joining the CompTIA Board. The new tagline “The ICT Industry Trade Association” will be added to CompTIA’s name to reflect this broader, industry-wide focus.

Members of CompTIA and Tech America now have access to complementary strengths under one umbrella, where a single voice with a 360-degree view of the information communications technology sector can represent them. Premier members will be able to take advantage of new business networking and intelligence opportunities, as well as tap expanded public sector programs. Under CompTIA’s recently announced open access model, an additional 7,000 individual registered users will continue to benefit from additional research and content.

CompTIA’s foundation, the Creating IT Futures Foundation, continues its work and can connect with larger technology member companies to further leverage the reach of its initiatives.

Providing White House to State House Policy Advocacy

CompTIA’s policy advocacy gains federal, state and international expertise and resources with the addition of TechAmerica’s team.

Advocacy on behalf of the information communications technology sector remains member-driven. CompTIA continues to represent the IT channel and now expands its voice to encompass the full ICT continuum. This strengthens the association’s ability to advocate for policy at all levels by showing the impact of policy on ICT companies large and small that together service all aspects of the commercial and public sectors.

CompTIA reiterated its commitment to pursuing current policy priorities and will examine specific projects in the weeks and months ahead. Policy priorities will be focused along four main themes: accelerating the innovation cycle; building a 21st century workforce; maintaining secure, open access to the Internet; and ensuring state and federal governments are technologically equipped to address future challenges. Policy advocacy at the federal, state and international levels will be rebranded as TechAmerica, advancing ICT policy.

Certification, Research and Education

CompTIA continued to work hand-in-hand with the technology industry to provide vendor-neutral IT training and certifications. CompTIA has been delivering certification exams for more than 20 years and currently offers 17 certification exams in PC support, cloud computing, mobility, security, networking, servers, Linux and more.
