Canon
Canon is targeting small businesses and workgroups in the enterprise space with its new imageCLASS MF5800 monochrome MFP family. The new MF5800 line, which initially includes the MF5850dn and MF5880dn, will be sold exclusively through Canon's reseller channel.
Canon
The new imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4000 series offers what Canon calls an “upgrade path” from the nearly four-year-old imageRUNNER 3425 series, which included the imageRUNNER 3225, 3230, 3235/3235i and 3245/3245i with output speeds of 25 ppm, 30 ppm, 35 ppm and 45 ppm, respectively. The new four-model family of A3 monochrome MFPs includes the 25-ppm imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4025, the 35-ppm imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4035, the 45-ppm imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4045 and the 51-ppm imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4051. Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE architecture uses the firm's Quick Fixing (QF) mechanically ground toner, RAPID fusing technology and long-life E-Drum technology.
Dell
The Dell 3333dn and 3335dn are monochrome MFPs based on the same Lexmark engine. The 3333dn is a print, copy and scan device, and the 3335dn adds fax capabilities. These two new Dell monochrome MFPs are designed for small- to medium-sized workgroups.
Dell
The Dell 5535dn is a departmental monochrome MFP based on the same Lexmark engine as the Dell 5530dn printer. The 5530 and 5535 feature a 600 MHz processor and share the same specs, including a 55-ppm print speed and a 275,000-page monthly duty cycle.
Hewlett-Packard / HP
HP has replaced the LaserJet 4345 MFP line with the new M4555 machines, a family of A4 monochrome print/copy/scan devices available with or without faxing capabilities.
Hewlett-Packard / HP
By offering standard Ethernet connectivity, HP may be hoping to include the device in some of its MPS packages, which could make these MFPs more attractive to office users. However, with printing costs that exceed those of most business-class inkjet machines, we think frugal SMB customers are unlikely to purchase the new M1100/M1200 MFPs.
Kyocera Mita
Kyocera Mita has expanded its monochrome MFP lineup with these two new 42-ppm ECOSYS machines. The FS-3040MFP is a print, copy, scan machine and the FS-3140MFP model adds fax capabilities. Ultimately, the low operating cost of the ECOSYS machines should make them attractive to businesses that are looking to control printing costs.
Kyocera Mita
Kyocera Mita has refreshed its entry-level A4 monochrome line with the launch of the FS-1035MFP/DP and FS-1135MFP, which replace the FS-1028MFP/DP and FS-1128MFP. The new FS-1035MFP/DP is a print, copy, and scan device and the FS-1135MFP is a four-function machine that adds fax capabilities. Like the FS-1028MFP/DP and FS-1128MFP, the FS-1035MFP/DP and FS-1135MFP are relatively barebones devices that are aimed at small-to-medium sized workgroups.
Kyocera Mita
Kyocera Mita has introduced a pair of tabloid/A3-sized monochrome MFPs that it claims offer "the robust features and functionality of an A3 MFP, but within the configuration and price point of an A4 MFP-based platform." The TASKalfa 255 offers output speeds of 25 ppm and has a 40,000-page maximum monthly duty cycle, while the TASKalfa 305 is a 30 ppm device with a 50,000-page maximum monthly duty cycle.
Ricoh
The new Aficio SP 5200S, SP 5210SF and SP 5210SR are Ricoh's first high-speed monochrome A4 MFPs. The machines are designed to offer end users a fully featured, departmental A4 device that can act as an alternative to A3 MFPs and digital copiers. The SP 5000 family supports workgroups of between 10 and 30 users and features the same controller and processor found in higher-end A3 devices.
Ricoh
Ricoh's new Aficio MP 2851 and MP 3351 are monochrome MFPs that replace the Aficio MP 2550 and MP 3350. Enhancements over the older machines include full-color scanning and new workflow technology, such as Ricoh's App2me and Personal Paperless Document Manager from Nuance Communication.
Ricoh
Ricoh replaced the Aficio MP 4000 and MP 5000 MFPs with the new MP 4001 and MP 5001. The new units are apparently based on the same architecture as the older machines—many of the specs are identical, including the physical size, processor, and memory features.
Samsung
Samsung retired the SCX-4623FD and SCX-4623FW, which were released last year, and replaced the older machines with the new SCX-4729FD and SCX-4729FW. The SCX-4729FD is a monochrome print, copy, scan and fax laser device, and the SCX-4729FW adds wireless connectivity. Both new units are based on a new engine design and feature new supplies. With a top print speed of 29 pages per minute, Samsung's latest mono MFPs are 4 ppm faster than their predecessors and feature standard duplexing.
Sharp
The market for fully functioned A4 monochrome MFPs, such as the MX-B402, is being driven by the relatively low prices of these devices compared to their A3 counterparts. In tough economic times, many companies are willing to sacrifice 11 x 17-inch paper-handling ability for cost savings. While the MX-B402 will compete against a crowded field of competitors, Sharp's low cost-per-page figures provide it with a strong competitive point of differentiation.
Toshiba America Business Solutions
Toshiba has refreshed the lower tier of its A3 workgroup monochrome MFP products with the launch of the e-STUDIO206L, 256 and 306, which replace the e-STUDIO205SE, 255SE and 305SE, respectively. The new machines, like their predecessors, employ the same print and copy engine that debuted in the e-STUDIO205, 255 and 305 released in 2009. Although Toshiba's latest machines do not use a new generation of technology, they do offer such key improvements as the ability to print or scan from a USB drive and on-the-fly toner and paper replenishment along with a new 9-inch color LCD touch screen.
Xerox
Xerox has retired the WorkCentre 5225 and 5230 with the introduction of the new WorkCentre 5325, 5330 and 5335. The new WorkCentre 5300 devices offer more memory, a bigger hard drive, enhanced connectivity, improved fax options and more security features including password-protected PDF. The new machines all feature a standard 110-sheet duplexing automatic document feeder (DADF) and standard duplexing. Standard paper capacity is a choice of 1,090 sheets or 2,090 sheets. The maximum paper capacity is 5,090 sheets.
Xerox
With the launch of the new 5700 family, Xerox joins a number of OEMs that have launched new Series 3 and 4 units in the past year. The bad economy has breathed new life into the markets for higher-end monochrome MFPs, because they provide lower operating costs than color units with similar feature sets.
Xerox
Occupying the center of Xerox's new WorkCentre 5700 family of A3/tabloid black-and-white MFPs are the WorkCentre 5755 and 5765. Xerox has limited distribution of the line to its direct sales forces, authorized Xerox sales agents, and Global Imaging Systems.
Xerox
The WorkCentre 5775 and 5790 sit atop Xerox's WorkCentre 5700 family of A3/tabloid black-and-white MFPs. There are seven units in the 5700 family, which replace Xerox's WorkCentre 5600 line. Both new units are for in-plant repro operations and print-for-pay shops.
