Canon is targeting small businesses and workgroups in the enterprise space with its new imageCLASS MF5800 monochrome MFP family. The new MF5800 line, which initially includes the MF5850dn and MF5880dn, will be sold exclusively through Canon's reseller channel.

With the introduction of the color imageRUNNER ADVANCE C2030 and C2020, Canon is expanding its imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform to include lower-volume, lower-speed color MFPs. The pair of new tabloid/A3 color MFPs, which replace the imageRUNNER C2550, are based on a new engine that uses technology from higher-end imageRUNNER ADVANCE models.

The new imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4000 series offers what Canon calls an “upgrade path” from the nearly four-year-old imageRUNNER 3425 series, which included the imageRUNNER 3225, 3230, 3235/3235i and 3245/3245i with output speeds of 25 ppm, 30 ppm, 35 ppm and 45 ppm, respectively. The new four-model family of A3 monochrome MFPs includes the 25-ppm imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4025, the 35-ppm imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4035, the 45-ppm imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4045 and the 51-ppm imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4051. Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE architecture uses the firm's Quick Fixing (QF) mechanically ground toner, RAPID fusing technology and long-life E-Drum technology.

The PIXMA MX340 and MX350 sit toward the bottom of Canon's inkjet all-in-one lineup and provide print, copy, scan, and fax functionality. The machines are targeted at SOHO applications and support wireless printing, copying, and scanning.

The Canon PIXMA MX870 Wireless Home Office All-In-One is a higher-end printing solution targeting the small office and home (SOHO) market. The machine offers 9,600 x 2,400 dpi color resolution for photo printing and a standard 35-sheet automatic document feeder.

Dell says its Clear View LED print technology allows for a compact design as well as great print quality, performance, enhanced energy savings, and ease of maintenance over comparable laser printers.

The Dell 3333dn and 3335dn are monochrome MFPs based on the same Lexmark engine. The 3333dn is a print, copy and scan device, and the 3335dn adds fax capabilities. These two new Dell monochrome MFPs are designed for small- to medium-sized workgroups.

Dell's new high-end monochrome hardware will be at a disadvantage going up against similar products from rival printer vendors. Although it is slightly less expensive to operate than the Lexmark T654dn, the Dell 5530dn costs $600 more than the $1,449 Lexmark unit.

HP's new Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 series of A3 color laser printers replaces the HP Color LaserJet 5550 series. The Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 series produces letter-sized output at 30 ppm in both black and color, prints at a maximum resolution of 600 × 600 dpi, and has a maximum monthly duty cycle of 120,000 pages.

On July 5, HP added the LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw to its lineup of A4 color laser MFPs. The new print, copy and scan MFP is an entry-level device featuring a compact design for the limited space on a home-office desktop or in a small office.

By offering standard Ethernet connectivity, HP may be hoping to include the device in some of its MPS packages, which could make these MFPs more attractive to office users. However, with printing costs that exceed those of most business-class inkjet machines, we think frugal SMB customers are unlikely to purchase the new M1100/M1200 MFPs.
