Summary

Xerox WorkCentre 5325/5330/5335Xerox has retired the WorkCentre 5225 and 5230 with the introduction of the new WorkCentre 5325, 5330 and 5335. The new WorkCentre 5300 devices offer more memory, a bigger hard drive, enhanced connectivity, improved fax options and more security features including password-protected PDF. The new machines all feature a standard 110-sheet duplexing automatic document feeder (DADF) and standard duplexing. Standard paper capacity is a choice of 1,090 sheets or 2,090 sheets. The maximum paper capacity is 5,090 sheets.

The new WorkCentre 5300 family employs a new black toner cartridge that yields 22,000 pages compared to the 30,000-page black cartridge employed by the older 5225 and the 5230 machines. Although the yield is lower than the cartridges deployed in the previous generation of machines, the 5300 cartridges include a SKU that will be sold (006R01159) and a second SKU (006R01158) that will be used in machines placed through volume-base leases. The new cartridges features Xerox's EA Ultra Low Melt Toner. The 5300 machines also use a new drum cartridge that yields 96,000 pages.

The new 5300 family is currently shipping and are available as copy-only and print, copy and scan devices. MSRPs for copy-only models start at $6,100, and pricing for the MFP versions of the WorkCentre 5325, 5330 and 5335 start at $7,100; $8,100; and $9,100, respectively. Xerox markets a range of optional paper-handling features and finishers. As is often the case in this class of device, Xerox does not publish consumables pricing so we can not determine what the operating costs will be. However, with the special lease-only cartridge we assume cost should be competitive.

The new 5300 line will face much competition from other OEM series including the Canon imageRUNNER 2525/2530/2535 and the Kyocera Mita TASKalfa300i as well as the TASKalfa 255 and 305. Other competitive machines include the Ricoh Aficio MP 2851 and MP 3351, the Konica Minolta bizhub 223/283/363, and the Sharp MX-M283/M363 along with the Toshiba e-STUDIO255SE/305SE/355SE.
