Interview with Joe Barganier, MT Business Technologies, Inc., MPSA
- By Laura Kittner
- 04/01/2011
Joe Barganier is an MPS consultant
at MT Business Technologies, Inc. and president of the Managed Print Services Association (MPSA).
What is your current state of mind?
Engaged. I'm just getting settled into a game plan for 2011. I had several unforeseen opportunities and challenges between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day which delayed my 2011 planning.
What is the greatest challenge you face today?
Balancing time between my full-time job as an MPS consultant for MT Business Technologies, Inc. with my industry and community involvement.
What do you see as your biggest opportunity?
To make a positive impact with the ongoing development of the MPS industry as a whole and to provide excellent service to my MPS clients in Ohio.
What is the quality you like most in a sales manager?
Honesty is a key quality to developing the necessary relationships. I believe a sales manager's primary job is to help their people grow and improve.
What would you consider your greatest achievement?
I'm not sure I would qualify any of my accomplishments as my "greatest achievement." Being a Christian and marrying my wife would have to be two of the most important.
If your customers were to describe your company in three words, what would they be?
Dependable. Quality. Service.
Managed print services or managed services?
We do both at our company. I do believe managed print services naturally evolves into managed services over time.
Where are you investing the most within your company this year?
Managed print services and managed services. We are in our fourth year of our Total Output Management program and second year of our NetworkGuardian solution.
What is your greatest concern for this industry?
The managed print services industry is being formed out of several traditional output/imaging industry segments, which causes natural tension and conflicts of interest amongst the participating partners. It will continue to be challenging over the next few years as the dust settles. There is still a role for everyone within the output/imaging industry; just not everyone will be part of the MPS or MS industry segment.
How would your employees and co-workers describe you?
Helpful, knowledgeable, hardworking, passionate and opinionated.
Who are your favorite writers?
John Steinbeck, Joseph Conrad, Louis L'Amour and Zig Ziglar.
Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
"MPS," "...that's beyond our scope," "I don't like whale hunting" as it relates to sales.
Why do you hold your current business position today?
My current position is an evolution of being in the output industry. I started at QMS in my hometown of Mobile, Alabama in 1991 and just kept looking for new opportunities to grow professionally. Mobile (QMS), Indianapolis (IKON then Ricoh) and now Columbus (MT Business).
Do trends exist in this industry?
Absolutely, some are broader and longer than others.
Who is your next hire?
A management company for the MPSA, which will help with our board of directors organization, allowing us to further grow and support our industry members.
What is your favorite quote?
"You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want."—Zig Ziglar
John 3:16
