In February, Xerox added the Phaser 6010 printer to its existing lineup. The machine features new Fuji Xerox LED technology and it is marketed as one of the fastest printers in its class. Xerox dubbed the LED technology HiQ and it offers benefits like drum and fuser units that are expected to last the life of the machine. With an estimated retail starting price of around $299, the Phaser 6010 is Xerox's lowest cost color device to date. It has a top color print speed of 12 ppm and 15 ppm for black and white. A small business class printer, the Phaser 6010 has a 128 MB memory, a 384 MHz processor, and can be connected either via 10/100BaseTX Ethernet or USB 2.0. Other features include PrintingScout Alert Notification and security features like IP Filtering, IPv6, and SNMPv2.

The Phaser 6010 uses new standard-capacity toner cartridges, which feature Xerox's low-melt chemical toners. Formerly known as Emulsion Aggregation (EA) Ultra Low Melt toner, Xerox has opted to use the brand name originated by Fuji Xerox, EA-Eco. The color EA-Eco cartridges have CMY yields of 1,000 pages and cost $59.99 each. The black cartridges yield about 2,000 pages and cost $69.99. The total cost per page for black-only printing is around 3.5 cents and for color it's about 21.5 cents.

The new Phaser 6010 will face a crowded field of competitors including the Brother HL-3040 and 3070, Dell 1350cnw, HP LaserJet Pro CP1525, and Samsung CLP-325W. The new Phaser unit sits toward the high-end of the market in terms of acquisition cost—$100 more than the Samsung unit but $50 less than the more expensive Brother HL-3070. In terms of black-and-white page costs, it is at the low end of the range, but it is the most expensive low-end LED printer we know of for color printing. The Phaser 6010 is currently available.
