 HP's new Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 series of A3 color laser printers replaces the HP Color LaserJet 5550 series. The Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 series produces letter-sized output at 30 ppm in both black and color, prints at a maximum resolution of 600 × 600 dpi, and has a maximum monthly duty cycle of 120,000 pages. The new series consist of three models: the base CP5525n; the CP5525dn, which adds automatic duplexing; and the CP5525xh, which includes duplexing, additional paper trays, and a 120 GB hard disk drive. The series supports HP's new ePrint technology, which allows users to print to the devices remotely from any web-connected device.
The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 series uses a new set of all-in-one toner cartridges, which have page yields of 13,500 pages for the black cartridge and 15,000 pages for each of the color cartridges. There is also a toner collection unit, fuser kit, and transfer kit, each with a life of 150,000 pages. Based on just the one-piece toner cartridges, the new A3 color laser printer series has a cost per page of 1.81 cents in black and 9.81 cents in color. When including the longer-life parts, the CPP is 2.18 cents in black and 10.18 cents in color. These CPP figures are about average for this class of device.
The Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 series began shipping in November. The CP5525n sells for $2,499, the CP5525dn sells for $2,699, and the top-of-the-line CP5525xh is priced at $4,399. The machines are available through HP direct sales and HP resellers and it is expected that they will face stiff competition. The CP5525 family will compete against devices such as the Dell 7130cdn, Lexmark C925de and C935 series, Ricoh Aficio SP C820DN and SP C821DN, and Xerox Phaser 7500. HP, however, is the market leader in this high-volume segment of the color laser printer market, and we expect that the firm will continue to do well with the Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 series. |
