Konica Minolta Implements First UK Managed Print Shared Service across Public Sector

Konica Minolta East has implemented its first Managed Print Shared Service in Leicestershire for use across three public sector organizations.

Following a serious fire that destroyed their existing offices, Melton Borough Council has built the new Parkside building where it has relocated its operations. In an effort to reduce costs, maximize efficiencies and improve public services, Parkside will now serve as a shared service resource to Melton Borough Council, Leicestershire NHS Trust and Leicestershire County Council staff to use, and very soon, Leicestershire Probation staff will also join the shared service.

Working in partnership with the two Councils and NHS Trust, Konica Minolta East has implemented its Managed Print Service within a new shared network at Parkside, enabling all partner establishments to benefit from a centralized managed print solution, directly from its own organizations network. The network infrastructure at Parkside automatically connects users to their relevant organizations network upon authentication, giving them access to all of their networked resources.

The challenge was to allow all users in the building, regardless of which organization or function they belonged in, to print securely in an accountable manner through independent networks, but using one shared server. Konica Minolta East developed the solution in conjunction with its strategic partner Inepro BV and their print management solution DocuPRO, which allows this to take place seamlessly. Print jobs can pass from the separate networks to a central server where the user and their domain is identified and their jobs are securely held pending release.

The solution avoids providing separate print hardware for each partner and DocuPro reporting allows costs to be correctly apportioned and recharged to individual user level. It makes no difference if two users working in the same building have the same login name, as all jobs are independently managed enabling every job to be accounted for and cross charged to the appropriate organization and department.
